Great news for NetBox users! We’re thrilled to announce the Private Preview of our new direct integration with Cisco Meraki. As NetBox continues to solidify its role as the network source of truth, the demand for seamless connections with key network management platforms has grown.
Cisco Meraki, a leading cloud-managed networking solution, is widely used for wireless, switching, and security infrastructure. This new integration empowers network operators to maintain comprehensive visibility and control over their Meraki infrastructure, ensuring data consistency and reducing manual data entry errors.
For many network teams, NetBox serves as the authoritative source for network documentation and IP Address Management (IPAM), while Cisco Meraki handles the day-to-day management of wireless access points, switches, and security appliances. However, without a direct connection between the two, teams are often left manually duplicating information—leading to data inconsistencies, errors, and inefficiencies that slow down network automation initiatives.
A key challenge in modern network operations is ensuring alignment between cloud-managed infrastructure and traditional network documentation systems. Without proper synchronization, teams lose visibility into device inventory, IP allocations, and network topology, making it difficult to maintain accurate records as the network evolves, creating operational risk and introducing drag for automation efforts. This new integration eliminates those concerns by providing a seamless link between NetBox and Cisco Meraki, ensuring that your cloud-managed infrastructure is accurately reflected within NetBox’s authoritative database.
Like our recently announced VMware vCenter and Cisco Catalyst Center integrations, this Cisco Meraki integration embraces a shared authority model. In today’s complex IT ecosystems, no single tool can—or should—control every aspect of the network. Instead, organizations must rely on a distributed approach, where each system specializes in its respective domain while contributing to a cohesive network management strategy.
With this integration, NetBox remains the central source of truth for network infrastructure documentation and IPAM, while Cisco Meraki continues handling real-time device management, policy enforcement, and monitoring. The integration ensures that device inventory, network topology, VLANs, and IP addressing are accurately tracked, reducing the risk of documentation drift, improving visibility, and enabling better coordination between teams responsible for network operations.
The NetBox Meraki integration provides comprehensive synchronization of your cloud-managed infrastructure:
Device Inventory and Management: Automatically sync all Meraki devices including MX security appliances, MS switches, and MR wireless access points. Each device is properly categorized with accurate device types, roles, and serial numbers, providing complete visibility into your Meraki deployment.
Site and Network Topology: Meraki organizations and networks are intelligently mapped to NetBox’s site hierarchy, ensuring your network documentation accurately reflects your organizational structure and physical locations.
IP Address Management: Synchronize VLANs, subnets, and IP address assignments from your Meraki networks into NetBox’s IPAM. This includes device management IPs, gateway addresses, and network prefixes, providing a unified view of your IP space.
Wireless Network Documentation: Import wireless SSIDs with complete authentication and security details, including WPA settings, pre-shared keys, and VLAN associations. This ensures your wireless infrastructure is fully documented alongside your wired network.
Interface and MAC Address Details: Capture detailed interface information and MAC addresses for complete device documentation, supporting cable management and network troubleshooting workflows.
The Cisco Meraki integration has been evolving within the NetBox Labs Experimental stage, with invaluable feedback from early users shaping its capabilities. Now, as we enter Private Preview, we’re inviting more users to help us refine the integration and extend its use cases ahead of Customer Preview and General Availability later in 2025.
If you use NetBox alongside Cisco Meraki and want to influence the future of this integration, we’d love for you to join the Private Preview. Please fill out the form below with your name, company, role, and a brief outline of how deeper integration between these tools could enhance your operations. We will be prioritizing applicants based on their use cases.
