Great news for NetBox users! We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming integration with Palo Alto Networks Panorama – and we’re looking for design partners to help shape this integration from the ground up.
Palo Alto Networks Panorama is widely deployed for centralized firewall management across enterprise environments. Organizations using NetBox have consistently requested integration with their Panorama-managed firewall infrastructure. This new integration enables teams to maintain complete visibility of their security infrastructure within NetBox, eliminating manual synchronization and ensuring consistency across systems.
The Challenge of Managing Security Infrastructure Documentation
Typically, NetBox serves as the authoritative source for network infrastructure documentation, while Panorama manages firewall operations and policy. Without integration, teams manually duplicate firewall inventory data, creating inconsistencies and operational inefficiencies that impact security posture and automation efforts.
Security infrastructure, despite representing a significant portion of enterprise networks, is often the most challenging to document accurately. Firewalls span multiple sites with complex interface relationships and intricate VLAN and VRF assignments that must be reflected in broader network documentation.
A Comprehensive Approach to Security Infrastructure Integration
Like our recently announced integrations with Cisco Meraki and Tenable, this Panorama integration embraces a shared authority model. In today’s complex IT ecosystems, security infrastructure management requires specialized tools working in harmony with broader network documentation systems.
The goal of NetBox Panorama integration is effective modeling and management of the Panorama infrastructure itself, rather than up the stack policy management. The integration is designed to provide comprehensive synchronization of Panorama-managed firewall infrastructure into NetBox, including:
- Device Inventory: Complete synchronization of PA-Series hardware firewalls and VM-Series virtual appliances with serial numbers, models, PAN-OS versions, and operational status
- Interface Modeling: Comprehensive representation of physical Ethernet ports, link aggregates (LAGs), loopback interfaces, tunnel interfaces, VLAN interfaces, and 802.1Q subinterfaces
- Network Context: Mapping of Device Groups to NetBox organizational structures and VRF relationships through Virtual Router synchronization
- IP Address Management: Full synchronization of management and interface IPv4/IPv6 addresses with proper interface assignments
- VLAN Integration: Synchronization of VLAN identifiers from subinterface configurations and VLAN interfaces
This integration ensures that NetBox remains the central source of truth for network infrastructure documentation while Panorama continues to excel at security policy management and operational monitoring.
