A few months ago, we introduced NetBox Copilot – an AI-powered assistant that brings natural language understanding directly into your NetBox workflow. Since then, we’ve been working with early adopters from our waitlist, gathering feedback and refining the experience. Today, we’re excited to announce that NetBox Copilot is now available to everyone as an open Public Preview – no waitlist, no waiting. (Can’t wait to get started? Here’s the Quickstart Guide.)

Hundreds of NetBox Labs customers and NetBox community members signed up for early access, and we’ve had the privilege of working closely with many of them. To everyone who participated: thank you. Your feedback has shaped NetBox Copilot into something genuinely useful, and we’re ready to share it with the entire NetBox community.

What is NetBox Copilot?

NetBox Copilot is an AI assistant that actually understands NetBox – your data models, relationships, and how network teams think about infrastructure. It embeds directly in your NetBox interface, so you can ask questions in plain English while you’re working and get immediate answers.

What makes it valuable:

Get answers in seconds instead of clicking through multiple pages or writing scripts. Ask complex questions like “Show me all devices in NYC without primary IPs” or “Which racks are over 80% full?” and Copilot figures out what you need.

Make NetBox accessible to everyone on your team. Non-technical users can ask questions in their own words without understanding NetBox’s structure or API. Project managers, executives, and new team members get the data they need instantly.

Learn as you work. Copilot combines NetBox documentation with your actual data. Ask “How do config contexts work, and am I using them correctly?” and get answers specific to your infrastructure.

Reduce cognitive load on engineers. Enable team members to solve problems faster without needing deep technical knowledge or context on every element of the infrastructure.

Works with everything. Community, Cloud, Enterprise – if it’s NetBox, Copilot works with it. Plugin data models? Copilot introspects your instance and adapts automatically.

How It Works: Simple and Secure

Setup takes less than five minutes – just paste a simple script in your browser console or main template to load Copilot. No installation on your NetBox server required. Copilot uses your existing NetBox session and RBAC permissions, so you (and Copilot) only see what you’re authorized to see.

Your NetBox credentials never leave your browser. NetBox Copilot only sees the specific data you ask about, we don’t train AI models on your data, and all communication is encrypted. For organizations with specific data governance requirements, enterprise options including BYOM, data sovereignty, and Private Copilot deployments are coming after general availability.

What’s Next?

We’re actively refining NetBox Copilot’s behavior based on feedback from the community, and ensuring Copilot is an accurate and effective agent is our top focus. Soon, we’ll begin supporting write operations so NetBox Copilot can help you create and update objects safely. Beyond that, we’re building enterprise data governance features, team management capabilities, and deeper NetBox Cloud and NetBox Enterprise integration. But the roadmap will be shaped by how you use NetBox Copilot and what you need – that’s why your feedback matters.

Try It Today

NetBox Copilot is in Public Preview and we’re refining it every day based on what we learn from users. There are still some rough edges, but Copilot is already helping teams work faster and making NetBox more accessible.

NetBox Copilot supports a free plan that includes 500k input tokens – enough for substantial usage. Setup takes five minutes. Ask it something you’d normally have to hunt for. Ask it to explain a NetBox concept. See what happens.

NetBox Copilot is available in Public Preview for all NetBox editions. Get started with NetBox Copilot now with our Quickstart Guide. Or learn more in the NetBox Copilot documentation.

We want your feedback – what’s working, what’s not, and what would make Copilot more useful for your team. You can share feedback directly through the Copilot interface while you’re using it.
