A few weeks ago, we introduced the NetBox 4.2 beta release, which brought a range of significant updates tailored to both service providers and broader network management needs. Today, we are excited to announce that NetBox 4.2 is now generally available!
As always, the feedback and contributions from our vibrant community have been invaluable. Your insights during the beta phase helped us refine this release, ensuring that it continues to meet the high standards of reliability, usability, and innovation expected of NetBox.
Key Highlights in NetBox 4.2
This release delivers powerful new capabilities and enhancements to the NetBox platform, reflecting our ongoing collaboration with users and contributors. Here’s what’s new:
- VLAN Translation: Users can now define policies which track the translation of VLAN IDs on IEEE 802.1Q-encapsulated interfaces. Translation policies can be reused across multiple interfaces, making VLAN management more efficient.
- Virtual Circuit Modeling: Extend beyond physical circuits with models for point-to-point or multipoint virtual circuits, enabling accurate documentation across diverse network architectures.
- Q-in-Q Encapsulation Support: Designate customer VLANs (CVLANs) and service VLANs (SVLANs) for IEEE 802.1ad/Q-in-Q encapsulation. Each interface can now have its mode designated as “Q-in-Q” and be assigned an SVLAN.
- Multiple MAC Addresses per Interface: Interface MAC addresses are now managed as independent objects, with support for multiple addresses per interface and the ability to designate a primary MAC address.
- Quick Add UI Widget: Seamlessly create and assign new related objects, such as device roles, directly from within forms. This enhancement streamlines workflows and saves time.
Additionally, dozens of smaller fixes and improvements have been implemented, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement.
