Meet Peter Armstrong, our Senior Customer Support Engineer, based in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Peter supports customers throughout their NetBox journeys and helps showcase everything the platform can do.
“I get to show customers what the product can do, which helps generate and inspire new ideas for them,” Peter shares. “It also has the benefit of encouraging greater adoption and identifying new opportunities to expand their use of the platform.” It is a role that sits right where support meets growth, helping people solve today’s problem while opening their eyes to what comes next.
Joining NetBox Labs meant leaving a role of 13 years, where Peter started as a First Line support engineer and worked up to Network Engineer. “It was daunting, but I was looking for a new challenge and wanted a different opportunity to keep learning and developing,” Peter explains. “At the same time, it let me bring the knowledge and experience I’d gained to help customers solve real-world use cases with NetBox, which has been incredibly rewarding so far.”
What excites Peter most is the pace of change. “It’s exciting to see how quickly the company is growing and evolving, with the ecosystem continually expanding through new features and integrations,” Peter says. “That creates more opportunities to deliver value to customers and help them solve new challenges.”
The day-to-day keeps that curiosity fed. “I’m constantly learning something new, always hands-on with some sort of complex issue, which keeps me engaged and thirsty for more,” Peter shares. “It gives me the chance to dive much deeper into technical challenges and push myself in ways I hadn’t experienced in previous roles.”
Ask Peter where the company values show up, and the answer is the customer work itself. “Working closely with customers to solve complex technical challenges reflects NetBox Labs’ values best,” Peter says. “I get to take ownership of finding the right solution, keep it as simple as possible, and share knowledge so customers get more value from the platform, while also passing feedback back that supports the wider NetBox community and product.”
AI has become part of how Peter works, especially when troubleshooting. “Tasks that could previously have taken hours to investigate can now be triaged much more quickly, which lets me explore different approaches, validate ideas, and get to the root cause faster,” Peter shares. “Beyond efficiency, it’s become an important learning tool that helps me keep building my knowledge and discover new ways of working.”
For anyone just starting out, Peter has clear advice. “Never be afraid to ask questions and stay curious. One of the things that stands out most about NetBox Labs is how willing everyone is to help and collaborate. Ask questions when you need to and you’ll get up to speed quickly, build great relationships, and have a lot of fun along the way. The way everyone pulls together for the same goals is both encouraging and inspiring for a growing company.”
Outside of work, the remote flexibility is what Peter values most. “It makes it much easier to switch off at the end of the day and keep a healthy work-life balance,” Peter says. That time goes toward a serious Tomb Raider habit and watching sport, the things that make the switch-off worth it.
