Building a product organization from the ground up comes with its own set of challenges. There isn’t always an established process to follow, priorities can shift quickly, and sometimes the best way forward is to make a decision, learn from it, and keep moving.

Meet Kimmie Nguyen, our VP of Product based in Denver, Colorado. She leads Product, Design, and Product Marketing at NetBox Labs, overseeing everything from what we build and how we position it to the experiences we create for customers.

A big part of her role is building the structure and processes that help the team scale. “Day-to-day is less cinematic than people imagine: unblocking decisions, driving cross-functional alignment, writing docs that force clarity, and translating what’s technically feasible into customer impact,” Kimmie shares.

What brought her to NetBox Labs was the people and the opportunity ahead. “Every single person I talked with during the process was smart, kind, and someone I genuinely wanted to work with,” she recalls. With ten years of open source adoption behind NetBox and a growing platform serving a much broader set of infrastructure use cases, she saw an opportunity to help shape what comes next.

That opportunity also comes with a different kind of challenge. “I’m building from the ground up at a pace I haven’t experienced before,” Kimmie explains. “There’s no existing playbook to follow, so a lot of my day-to-day is creating the structure and process as we go rather than optimizing something already in place.”

For Kimmie, this is where one of our core values, “Own It”, comes into play. With new information coming in from across the business, priorities can change quickly. Rather than waiting for everything to settle, she focuses on creating clarity and keeping decisions moving forward.

“That’s what ownership actually looks like at this stage: not having all the answers upfront, but staying accountable for the outcome even when the ground keeps shifting under you,” she says.

Another value that resonates with her is “Get It Out There”. During a recent product launch, the team chose to move directly to general availability rather than spend more time refining every edge case in preview. It was a calculated decision to learn from real customer usage and improve from there.

“Waiting for ‘done’ would’ve cost us more than shipping and iterating did,” Kimmie shares. It’s an approach that reflects how she thinks about building products at a growing company, balancing thoughtful decisions with the speed needed to keep learning.

AI has also become an important part of how she works. From strategy and research to writing and testing ideas, she uses it daily as a thought partner to work through complex decisions.

“I can move through ambiguity faster, pressure-test my own thinking, and get to a sharper answer than I could working alone,” she explains.

What makes that especially exciting is the opportunity to rethink how work gets done across NetBox Labs. Instead of simply adding AI to existing processes, Kimmie sees value in questioning those processes and exploring better ways to work.

For her, the combination of talented people, challenging problems, and the freedom to build something new is what makes this chapter exciting. As the NetBox Labs platform continues to evolve, she’s helping create the teams, processes, and product experiences that will support its next stage of growth.
