Meet Andrew Gormley, our Staff Product Designer based in Devon, England. Andrew leads the design of our NetBox Cloud and Enterprise editions, making sure the NetBox Labs platform is intuitive, useful, and fits naturally into the workflows network teams already rely on.
“My job is to make sure our Infrastructure Intelligence Platform is something network teams actually want to use,” Andrew shares. From understanding customer challenges and designing workflows to prototyping, testing ideas, and shipping new experiences, his role brings together design, product, and engineering.
Andrew’s journey to NetBox Labs began with a familiar product. Having worked in the networking industry before, he already knew NetBox from a previous company. When he decided to return to the industry, he reached out to our CEO and started freelancing on the NetBox Discovery and NetBox Assurance experience. “I loved the complex nature of the workflows we were trying to solve, and the team were clearly super smart and dedicated,” he recalls. “When Kris offered me a full-time role it was a no-brainer.”
What excites Andrew most is the opportunity to build on a platform that network teams already use. “NetBox is already running in networks everywhere, so the challenge now is taking our users’ network infrastructure data and building real value on top of it, solving the problems those teams actually have.”
One of the biggest changes in Andrew’s role has been the rise of AI. “My job looks completely different from how it looked even a year ago,” he says. With new tools constantly emerging, he’s experimenting with ways to improve his workflows, elevate his work, and make a greater impact. “AI is scary to a lot of people, but at NetBox Labs we’re given the autonomy and trust to experiment and evolve our roles and skill sets.”
That mindset was especially important during the NetBox Agents public preview. Working alongside a team of engineers, Andrew helped shape the early user experience, balancing the desire to refine every detail with the importance of getting real feedback. “Staying small lets us move quickly without over-engineering,” he explains. “But getting it out there is what matters, because it’s the only way to start receiving valuable feedback from our community and make sure we’re solving the right problems.”
Today, Andrew continues to explore how AI can transform the design process. Rather than relying solely on traditional click-through prototypes, he’s experimenting with more interactive, functional experiences that allow him to test ideas in realistic scenarios and better understand how customers might interact with the platform.
“AI has opened up the world to designers, and there’s a lot of interesting work happening at NetBox Labs right now,” Andrew shares. For him, these new tools create opportunities to move beyond static designs, experiment faster, and explore solutions that would have been much harder to prototype just a few years ago.
It’s this freedom to experiment, learn, and challenge traditional ways of working that makes the role so exciting. As AI continues to reshape what’s possible in design, Andrew is focused on turning that potential into simpler, more intuitive experiences for network teams.
