NetBox is the system of record for production infrastructure. Today we’re extending the platform from documenting what infrastructure exists to managing how it gets there in the first place.
NetBox Asset Lifecycle is now in public preview. It’s a native procurement pipeline (Bills of Materials, Purchase Orders, Shipments, Spares, and RMAs, with installation as a workflow against planned DCIM objects) driven by the same infrastructure model your team already trusts. Asset Lifecycle deepens NetBox’s role as the infrastructure system of record by giving procurement workflows a home in the platform.
Asset Lifecycle builds on the same NetBox data model foundations thousands of teams depend on. The procurement workflow and integrations layer on top.
What makes Asset Lifecycle unique is that it’s driven by the design. Unlike procurement tools that capture purchases after the fact, Asset Lifecycle generates the BOM directly from your NetBox model and carries one auditable thread from approval through installation and into operations. Every BOM, PO, Shipment, Spare, and RMA stays tied to the underlying infrastructure objects, and each installation captures the device, source, and operator on a single record.
The procurement workflow comes home to the infrastructure system of record. No more manual reconciliation across ERPs, vendor portals, spreadsheets, and email. No more breakdown at hundreds of racks across multiple sites.
Scope rules use NetBox’s native filtersets to select DCIM objects. Equipment is automatically deduplicated by type and variant (airflow direction, cable color and length). Auto-created CableType entries give cables a native home in the NetBox data model.
Asset Lifecycle introduces native procurement objects to NetBox: BOMs, POs, Shipments, Spares, and RMAs. Each gets the same NetBox UX you already know: CRUD views, bulk edit and import, filtersets, tags, custom fields, comments, and contacts. The Install action attaches to planned DCIM objects, letting operators update device status, serial number, and asset tag against a source shipment or spares pool. Warranty management, support contract tracking, and EOX (End-of-Sale / End-of-Life / End-of-Support) will round out the operate-and-retire side of the lifecycle.
Full REST API across every Asset Lifecycle object, with the installation workflow invokable via the same API surface. ERP and procurement integrations are already planned – we’d love to hear about the integrations most important to you.
Asset Lifecycle is available in the Premium subscription tier of NetBox Cloud during the public preview, and will be available in NetBox Enterprise at GA later this year.
If you’re already on our Premium tier, reach out to your account executive or customer success manager to opt into the preview. They’ll help scope your first BOM and connect you directly with the product team for feedback.
Request a demo and we’ll walk you through Asset Lifecycle and other powerful Premium tier capabilities.
