NetBox’s position as the definitive network source of truth continues to strengthen, and as our user community expands, so does the demand for seamless integrations with essential network management platforms. Today, we’re excited to announce the Private Preview of our latest integration: a direct connection between NetBox and Infoblox.
As one of the most widely deployed DDI platforms in enterprise environments, Infoblox plays a critical role in network infrastructure management. Organizations using NetBox to document and manage their networks have long sought a more cohesive way to integrate with Infoblox. This new integration, which initially focuses on DHCP functionality, enables network operators to maintain complete visibility of IP address allocation and DHCP data across systems, ensuring consistency while reducing the manual overhead of data synchronization.
The Challenge of Managing IPAM in Siloed Systems
For many network teams, NetBox serves as the authoritative source for IP Address Management (IPAM) structure, while Infoblox handles dynamic address assignment and DHCP services. Without a direct connection between these platforms, teams are often forced to manually duplicate information between systems.
This siloed approach creates numerous operational challenges: data inconsistencies between systems, outdated IP records, and inefficient troubleshooting processes when issues arise. Network operators need a unified view of both their planned IP space (in NetBox) and their dynamic DHCP allocations (in Infoblox) to effectively manage modern networks.
Bridging the Gap Between Network Documentation and Operational DHCP
Network professionals frequently face the challenge of maintaining comprehensive IP documentation while simultaneously keeping track of dynamic address assignments managed by Infoblox. This creates an inherent tension: network architects require complete visibility across all systems, while DDI specialists need operational independence to efficiently manage DHCP services without bureaucratic overhead—creating potential information silos.
In today’s complex IT landscapes, different systems need to coexist as authoritative sources for their respective domains while maintaining synchronization. Like our recently announced integrations with Microsoft DHCP, Cisco Catalyst Center, AWS VPC IPAM, and Juniper Mist, our vision for the Infoblox integration is to eventually build towards a “shared authority” model that supports bidirectional data flow between the two systems.
Today, the integration is “data in” only, pulling the latest DHCP data from Infoblox to ensure that NetBox continues to serve as the central system of record for your network infrastructure, while Infoblox efficiently manages DHCP services. With this integration, network teams maintain global visibility of all IP space, including dynamic DHCP allocations, while DDI teams can continue to operate autonomously within Infoblox.
Key Benefits in the Private Preview
The initial version of the NetBox-Infoblox integration focuses on DHCP data flows with several key benefits:
Comprehensive IP Visibility: Network teams gain a complete view of both planned and actively used IP addresses in a single platform. Dynamic DHCP leases and reservations from Infoblox appear seamlessly within NetBox alongside your static allocations.
Enhanced Metadata: Rich contextual information from Infoblox, including MAC addresses, hostnames, and lease details, enriches your NetBox IP documentation. Infoblox Extensible Attributes (EAs) can be mapped to NetBox site and VLAN associations, providing deeper context.
Simplified Troubleshooting: When investigating IP-related issues, teams no longer need to switch between multiple systems. NetBox becomes the unified reference point for both planned and active IP usage.
Audit Readiness: All imported data maintains clear lineage with source tagging and traceability, supporting compliance and audit requirements.
This integration has been built using our Diode SDK framework, ensuring reliable data collection and processing that scales with your network’s complexity, all while maintaining each system’s respective strengths.
What’s Next? Join the Private Preview
The NetBox Infoblox integration has been evolving within the NetBox Labs Experimental stage, with invaluable feedback from early users shaping its capabilities. Now, as we enter Private Preview, we’re inviting more users to help us refine the integration and extend its use cases ahead of Customer Preview and General Availability later in 2025.
If you use NetBox alongside Infoblox and want to influence the future of this integration, we’d love for you to join the Private Preview. Please fill out the form below with your name, company, role, and a description of how tighter integration between NetBox and Infoblox could improve your operations. We’ll prioritize applicants based on use cases.
Looking ahead, we plan to expand the integration to include DNS data synchronization, develop bidirectional data flows, and create even more sophisticated data mapping between the two platforms, further strengthening NetBox’s position as your comprehensive network source of truth.
We’re excited to work with you to build a more unified approach to network data management, with NetBox at the center.
