NetBox Integration with AWS VPC IPAM Enters Private Preview

NetBox continues to cement its place as the comprehensive network source of truth, and as our community expands, we’re committed to creating seamless connections with the tools that power modern infrastructure. Today, we’re excited to announce the Private Preview of our latest integration: a direct connection between NetBox and Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Cloud IP Address Management (AWS VPC IPAM), a critical service for organizations deploying cloud infrastructure at scale.

Today, the NetBox AWS VPC IPAM integration unlocks the following benefits:

  • Network teams maintain global visibility of all IP space, including cloud allocations
  • Cloud teams enjoy proactive support from network teams who are now able to detect IP issues early

The Challenge: IP Management in Hybrid Environments

A common headache for network operators is being responsible for IP space across their entire organizations while needing to maintain visibility over how IP space is being used by other teams, like cloud teams. Cloud teams benefit from maximum autonomy, and network operators benefit from maximum oversight—incentives that can sometimes clash.

Traditional approaches to this challenge often result in siloed IP management practices, with cloud teams managing their addressing independently from central network teams. This creates visibility gaps, potential address conflicts, and inefficient use of IP resources—problems that only compound as organizations scale their cloud footprint.

Reducing Friction Between Network and Cloud Teams

In today’s complex IT landscapes, different systems need to coexist as authoritative sources for their respective domains while maintaining synchronization. Like our recently announced integrations with Microsoft DHCP, Cisco Catalyst Center, Juniper Mist and VMware vCenter, our vision for the AWS VPC IPAM integration is to eventually build towards a “shared authority” model that supports bidirectional data flow between the two systems.

Today, the integration is “data in” only, pulling the latest IPAM allocations from VPC IPAM to ensure that NetBox continues to serve as the central system of record for your network infrastructure, while VPC IPAM efficiently manages cloud-specific IP allocations. The NetBox VPC IPAM integration has been developing within the NetBox Labs Experimental stage, with invaluable input from the AWS VPC IPAM team and early design partners helping to shape its capabilities.

“This integration represents our commitment to meeting organizations where they are,” says Kris Beevers, CEO of NetBox Labs. “As enterprise infrastructure continues to span on-premises and cloud environments, the NetBox Discovery ecosystem is evolving to provide the cohesive source of truth that network teams need across their entire estate.”

What’s Next? Join the Private Preview

Now, as we enter Private Preview, we’re inviting more users to help us refine the integration and extend its use cases including “shared authority” workflows ahead of Customer Preview and General Availability later in 2025.

If you’re using NetBox alongside AWS VPC IPAM and want to influence the future of this integration, we’d love for you to join the Private Preview. Please fill out the form below with your name, company, role, and a brief description of how tighter integration between NetBox and AWS VPC IPAM could improve your operations. We’ll prioritize applicants based on use cases.

We look forward to working together to create a more unified approach to IP management across hybrid environments, with NetBox at the center.
